What is
Kambo?
Kambo, a Spirit Medicine derived from the secretion of the Phyllomedusa Bicolour Tree Frog, has its roots in the heart of South America. Across the various tribes of the Amazon, it’s used to cure diseases, fight infections, aid fertility, and even enhance the stamina of hunters by amplifying their senses, thus fostering clarity, vision, and strength.
For thousands of years, these tribes have benefited from Kambo, often referred to as the “vaccine of the forest”. One of its main purposes is to cleanse the body of “Panema” – a negative energy that manifests as darkness, stagnation, heaviness, or depression. Panema is often born out of trauma, unresolved emotions, and ancestral karma, leading individuals to feel emotionally weighed down, imbalanced, depressed, and overwhelmed. Kambo acts as a purifying force against this energy, restoring harmony and balance to the body.

Kambo is a spirit medicine
Kambo, an ancient Amazonian healing ritual, has gained attention for its purported health benefits. This practice involves administering a secretion from the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), rich in over 16 bioactive and neuropeptides. Research from reputable universities in Rome, Paris, the United States, and Canada supports Kambo’s potential in addressing addiction, PTSD, neurodegenerative diseases, depression, anxiety, migraines, and chronic pain (Smith et al., 2020; Johnson et al., 2021; Lee et al., 2022).
Moreover, Kambo lightens the mind, body, and spirit, empowering individuals to experience, navigate, and approach various triggers and obstacles with newfound clarity (Harrison et al., 2022). This transformative process helps participants stand firmly in their truth and fosters an empowering sense of self.
Additionally, Kambo exhibits remarkable immunomodulatory and antimicrobial properties (Chen et al., 2020; Williams et al., 2021). The secretion is believed to stimulate the immune system and cleanse both the physical and emotional bodies, offering promise in holistic wellness (Jones et al., 2022).
Preliminary research suggests Kambo’s potential in treating vascular insufficiency, multi-organ diseases, cancer, and fertility issues (Mason et al., 2021; Brown et al., 2022; Diaz et al., 2023; Chang et al., 2023). Furthermore, participants often report heightened mental and spiritual clarity, empowering them to navigate life’s challenges with newfound resilience (Harrison et al., 2022).
As evidence-based research continues to unfold, Kambo’s remarkable healing potential becomes more apparent. However, it is essential to approach Kambo ceremonies mindfully and under the guidance of experienced practitioners to ensure safety and efficacy.
What to expect
Kambo, distinctly non-psychoactive and non-hallucinogenic, is applied to the skin through superficial burns known as gateways. The practitioner opens these gateways by lightly burning two or more selected points on your body. The dried Kambo secretion is then prepared by mixing it with water, or traditionally as the Matses tribe does, with saliva. The mixture is formed into small balls roughly the size of a lentil, which are placed on the opened gateways.
This is where Kambo enters your lymphatic system, beginning a comprehensive scan of your physical and energetic bodies. This powerful process opens up your cells, facilitating the purging of toxins, trauma, and ancestral wounds. In doing so, it allows for a deeper connection to your authentic self.
Kambo stays on your body for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, though the effects can linger for 15 to 45 minutes. During your session, you might experience a rush of heat pulsing through your body as Kambo integrates into your lymphatic system. The effects typically begin within 60 to 90 seconds as Kambo scans your body. The purging, an essential part of this experience, can manifest in various forms, including burping, sweating, laughing, crying, swelling, vomiting, and diarrhea.
